Hi guys,
I have visited this place about 6 times now and this is the first pictures I have taken of this place. Since the lighting was fantastic, I decided to put it to as best use as I could. I visited here with my friend who is not an Urban explorer, he found this place very intimidating and freaky, so I did not get as many shots as I would have liked, suppose there is always another trip back .
Here is some information behind the person responsible for opening Broomhill Hospital.
Thanks for looking,
Urban Shadow.
Beatrice Clugston was the daughter of an upper-class Glasgow business man, and was very much inspired by tales from the bible. In 1863 she decided to found the DORCAS Society, of Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
In the spring of 1875 Beatrice managed to organise a bazaar, much like a modern day Blue Peter bring and buy sale. She managed to raise a whopping £14, 175.
In July of the same year Broomhill House was bought by Beatrice from Robert Bartholomew.
It was then used as a hospital for people suffering from tuberculosis, cancer, chronic rheumatism and other incurable conditions.
Broomhill Hospital remained in operation for another 107 years after Beatrice passed away. The hospital eventually came to closure in 1995 due to some new NHS and government measures to let patients go back into the community rather than to be properly cared for in the right environment and conditions, not always the case, in both scenarios respectively.
Today 2008, the hospital is supposedly scheduled for demolition, although as some may curse the credit crunch, it has bought this building some time to let others see it and document its history before it is completely destroyed. Maybe someone with absolutely loads of cash will restore it, which I highly doubt.
On with the pictures,
Outside......
Heading towards the main entrance.....
The main entrance to the hospital......
Looking back along the entrance road......
The little tower.....
Outside of the wards.......
Main entrance and ward viewing galleries.....
At the rear of the hospital...............
Fire stairs........
Let's take a look inside shall we?
Inside one of the wards.....
loneliness......
Inside one of the wards again.....
Ward corridor........
Patients seats......
Bits and bobs.....
2nd floor smashed window and toilet wheel chair.....
Dark corridor........
Now it's time to head back out and go home for some warm tea and toast!
The chimney.....
In the distance again........
and just as I was leaving the grounds I grabbed a shot of the view of Kirkintilloch from the grounds of the hospital......
Thanks for having a look guys,
Cheers,
Urban Shadow
