Location
Cobland, otherwise known as Derbyshire lol.
Had nothing to do, so Mendo suggested we have a nip over to the remains of Annesley Colliery just over the border in Nottinghamshire. I think the history of the former Colliery has already been done, (plus i can't find it :blush) So onto the pics instead.

The headstocks.

Sorry for the amount of pics, I've tried to cut them down, but took nearly 300 and not good at dropping them lol.
Visited with ThenewMendoza and Fairygirl. :)

No need to apologise about the amount of pics, imo. The more the merrier from here.

Hey Sal, those pics are Brill. I love the one of the Narrow gauge tramway and the shot of the showers and the Headstock close up were excellent.:)

Seeing photo's of places like this just reminds you of how many people lost their jobs when the collieries were closed down

Every village and town around me and including my village were all mining places. Now there's two left, Welbeck and Thoresby, (just over the border into Nottinghamshire). Welbeck is going to close (no idea on when yet) and they're spending loads of money on Thoresby, so soon, that will be the only one left locally.

I'm sure I read a while back they planned on opening or reopening a mine in Nottinghamshire? I'm sure someone in the know can confirm :)

Brilliant Sal, I never get tired of seeing the wonderful headgear from this place. And those baths are ace. Great stuff:)

Your thinking of Harwoth on the Notts / Yorks border. It would be a case of reopening a pit that was extensively modernised before privatisation but has been mothballed for the last few years. Its one that badly needs to be taken out of the hands of UK Coal.

Anyone who wants to see Annesley really shouldn't hang about. Its a great place even if it a lot worse for wear these days. The headstocks are easily the most relaxed climb in the UK. Given that the developer got their permission to demolish all the buildings the place is on borrowed time.

A few from me. Really enjoyed visiting here given we've driven past a few times but never had time to stop for one reason or another.
