One place I've been extremely keen to visit for some time is the headstocks of Clipstone Colliery.
Clipstone was first sunk in the 1920s, however in the 1950s several structures were rebuilt so to reach deeper seams underground. It was at this time the distinctive 65 metre headstocks were erected. The Clipstone Headstocks use the Koepe winding system, with the winders being located at ground level rather the on the towers themselves. The consultant architects were Young and Purves of Manchester and the brick and glass structures have an attractive modernist style to them.
The Colliery closed in 2003, and much of the site has been cleared. The headstocks are listed, however local residents, the council and the sites owners seem keen to demolish them
