hope you liked them as much as i did finding them

Didn`t you go for a paddle hoot ?? it looks like a nice day for a wander.

Nice! Where in the country is this? Is that the remains of an old tub in that drift?

location south wales in the drift to me it looked like a old coal dram, the winding gear was to pull the coal drams from the bottom of the mountain as in picture 8 where i found the tunnel with the dram back up the mountain to where it was probably unloaded but didnt see any remains while going up the hill

Thanks. Hve you got a flash earth link, may be able to get more info from that :)

great find, love that parts of the machinery and winding gear are still intact. Good explore and gorgeous countryside.

Winding Gear.

It is possible that the winder was gravity operated, the full trucks would be lowered down the hill under brake control whilst pulling emptys back up the hill?

Edit: I used to ride my trail bike around that area often, too many trees to see anything at that time.

I like that drift mine, why not take some waders and go down for a closer look. I love the photos of the area, looks very peaceful.
That does look like a brake drum, by the way, so I assume that the it was a gravity incline :)

well thought of going back with me boots on, last time was wearing trainers and was up to my knees in sludge on the outside dont seem to deep in the tunnel but some spooky sounds in there.
after thought if it was a gravity winder(and you probably know better than me) and the full trucks came from the top down the hill, then the tunnel i found at the bottom must have been for storage for the empty drams not a mine entrance as i thought it was !

Winding Drum.

I had a look at the area today from the social club carpark.
Looks like the winder lowered stone from the quarry at Pen Maen, the bottom flag on the map is the adit which appears to be just to the East of the stream?
From experience I would suggest that you try to lower the water level by digging a narrow trench through the infill at the entrance (the water flow will assist once started).
Also suggest a gas tester.
