Location
Norton, near Malton N Yorks
Hovingham Spa, is a quaint little village on the road between Malton and Helmsley. I decided to visit the disused Limestone quarry today, (there are 3 along the same road including Wath which is live, and another older one long disused), Interesting little explore, and from what I can make out the quarry ceased operation in the late 1990's.

Anyway, on with the photo's:

Scales from the weighbridge, damaged, but nice to see the internal workings:

Thanks for looking!

Nice little quarry there mate was there anymore interesting items lying around the place

Another good find, TK. Some interesting bits and bobs remaining.
Love the old switches and other electrical stuff...and the nests in the coils are delightful!
Lovely pics. :)

Thanks jonney, no major plant left which was a shame, I was sort of hoping for a Ruston crane, but there you go. It was interesting poking around the site ofice, there was personal files, accountancy stuff etc. As with most of these places they are literally just locked up and left.

Thanks Foxylady, glad you liked them, it was a great few hours wandering round, and very peaceful, and unchavved, given it's remote setting. I ventured into the main part of the quarry and there was some type of bird of prey nesting there, not a bird expert so left it be:p

I have my eye on the quarry next door to it, as the rumour mill tells me that there might be some old army tanks stored there, will keep you posted.

We used to quarry 4 different types of sandstone from 4 different quarries and depending upon demand would move all the plant (dumpers, excavators etc.) from quarry to quarry on our low loaders as it was cheaper to do that than have seperate plant for each one. Very little was left in the quarries we were not using because even though they were in the middle of nowhere the scumbags would still vandalise the places. One of the quarries was even on the edge of the army firing ranges at Otterburn (redesdale camp) and it still got chav'd to bits. We had an old priestman crawler crane in one of the quarries but it ended up under the burning torch as the ring gear snapped and it was cheaper to use the excavators to lift the stone onto the waggons rather than fix it.

Cheers Jon

Lovely

Lovely set of pics there..I wonder what a Susie Special was from the small ads?????

Thanks for that info jonney, didn't realise the efforts you would go to to avoid the pikies, but it figures I guess.

Chelle, not sure what was on offer by suzy, but I doubt the wife would approve:mrgreen:
