Shredded Wheat is a breakfast cereal made from whole wheat. It comes in two sizes, bite sized (3/4 in x 1 in), and normal size, which are sometimes broken into small pieces before milk is added.

Reading through an old newspaper article written in 2005 it would seem Cereal Partners wanted to close the site circa 2007 and move the whole operation to Staverton. Some people thought this was a rather cynical move with a hidden agenda of realising the sites asset value, but it looks like C.P. got their way. Finance, sales and marketing employees were destined stay on in W.G.C so perhaps these make up the live parts of the site.

As Phobot and I explored, it seemed to me that some area's in the building had been shut down quite some time ago given the level of decay. Other parts looked so mint it would seemed the workers moved out only yesterday. The kitchens and engineering areas being a case in point.

When's the next episode of this report?
It is a serial right?:p

Cerealously though a good find, something to get yer teeth into.
Stop it, I can't help it!

Welwyn Garden City doesn't smell the same anymore. I think the writing had been on the wall for shredded wheat ever since Nabisco sold out. BTW which part is still active? I've passed it a few times recently but nothing i could see looked occupied still?

machines?...i thought they were knitted by nanas ;)

That's Shreddies, isn't it?

Cool report. Normally I'm quite sad to see abandoned factories as it usually means loads of people out of work, but as it happens I can't stand Shredded Wheat. Bloody cattle fodder if you ask me.

They probably lost so much money because everyone knows "you can't eat more than 2 shredded wheat". They mean in a lifetime unless you like eating the cereal version of a brillo pad.

I think it's the part of the building where the main doors are.

Where there loads of keys lying around?

No.

I passed this place last week and quite a large part of the site has been cleared, although the large chimneys/silos haven't been touched, I believe these are listed.

Are you serious?! You mean the main factory floor has gone?! Bloody hell - the power was still on when I went a couple of months back.
