Annesley Colliery was sunk between 1865 and 1867 by the Worswick family from Leicestershire. In 1924 the New Hucknall Colliery Company bought the colliery and invested much needed capital. In January 1947 Annesley became part of the National Coal Board. In January 1999 it was announced that Midlands Mining PLC was intending to close the colliery. The last shift was completed Friday 28th January 2000. Annesley Colliery and its associated village was declared a Conservation Area in 1999 in acknowledgement that the village represented a near intact mining community. There are now plans to demolish what remains and build housing on the site. This proposal has the support of the local council and residents

Stopped off here with Boothy on the way home from Clipstone. Was good to see whats left before it goes!

Thats greats cheers !:)
Hey ! when you folks do these big old collieries can you do me a favour ?? I know there's probably nothing but a patch of new concrete to be seen but please grab a photo of the shaft tops.......sort of sums the job up I reckon to see a sealed shaft even if it doesn't make for that great a photo !
Cheers anyways........ and it'll be a real loss to the country and for us all if this colliery headgear and others such as Cliipstone are demolished..............why is it that we're always so damn fast off the mark in this country to decide
" Oh thats finished with now.... lets knock it down and clear it away...no point in preserving that or trying to do anything with it...after all.... its only an old ....colliery / railway / viaduct / airfield / town hall / church / hospital...... etc etc etc "

Can't always restore everything - if we preserved everything we would be left with alot of pointless unusuable stuff and huge amounts of urban sprawl around our cities due to lack of redundant sites, not forgetting a lack of nurses and teachers because there is no money to pay them :)

I dunno mate....
...from whats been revealed in the last few weeks it sounds like there's plenty of money for whatever refurbishment and renovations wcould ever be needed and also for christ knows how many more nurses and police and hospitals .....
.........its just that our pig shit greedy and corrupt MPs have all got their snouts in the trough so deep and so secure there's bugger all left for anything else......
.....And yes ...they are corrupt ............I don't give a bollocks that they are saying
"Oh we didn't understand the system its not our faults!!! "
.......... at the very least they should be facing charges of false accounting and embezzellment.......and it makes not a squat of difference some of them have handed some of the money back......
...If you or I robbed the local Post Office and an hour later decided we really shouldn't have done that and we take the money back it wouldn't make a damn of a difference to how the Police would treat you .................
Ah well............ rant over ! heheheheheheh!:)

It really is a shame that this place will be lost forever.(I'm glad i got to see it before it goes)
