Crown Works is the site where John Tams originally founded his pottery in 1875,
Tams became a internationally known brand during the 70's and 80's and made "Elephant" brand hotelware. The business remained in the tams family untill 2000 when it went into administration, Following a management buyout they renamed the company Tams Group but presumeably ran into financial difficulty again. theres some interesting news articles here: http://www.thepotteries.org/allpotters/978b.htm

Unlike the other Tams pottery's Crown Works is entirely intact and unvandilised probably due to its overlooked town centre location. All the kilns and machinery remain as well as pallets of finished mugs and cups.
