Location
Somewhere in the middle
On a winters day with nothing much to do,
I take a ride without a clue,
and here I end up, after a wrong turn or two.

Annesley Colliery is located just outside the village of Annesley, and Newstead in Nottinghamshire. It was originally sunk in 1864 into the Top Hard seam by the Worswick family who were originally from Leicestershire

The Top Hard seam was mined for at least 50 years until the shaft was extended down to the Deep Hard seam in 1914. This was worked until 1950. At some point during this time the Deep Soft seam was opened and work until 1983.

Excellent pics mate, I like this place. Did you go underneath the clock tower building? And see the lockers and shower rooms? Enjoyed looking around there, and Fairygirl loved it all. :)

I have a National Coal Board Annesley brick, but looking at the one you've posted, that one looks in better condiiton lol.

Excellent work,

:) Sal

I didn't bother with the bath house except for externals that day. You might have built your wall with that brick:lol:

Cool stuff mate :)
Shame you didnt take a look in the bath house, its ok in there. I too have an Annesley brick from here, in fact I have quite a few from other collieries that I picked up here too lol.

Brought back a few from here :) One just says Annesley, one says NCB Annesley, and the third one, National Coal Board Annesley.

I've only just started collecting, but have around 30 ish, and always on the look out for different ones now. :)

Thanks for posting your shots from here. There might not be much left, but what's left is pretty cool in me own humble opinion :)

It gets addictive Foxy. Saw someone collected bricks on the other forum I'm on, and thought it silly. Then when we started turning them over and having a look, did I realise that nearly every colliery had it's own brickworks. THen found those 3 at Annesley, so always searching out different ones everywhere we go.

I must admit that I've wanted to collect them myself after we had the thread on here about bricks, but I can't really see me carrying them home in my backpack! I've got a piece of terracotta tile from a Roman Villa though, if that counts!

Thanks guys 'n' gals, it is a shame another village has lost its heritage with the illegal demolition of most of the site.
