'Ello Folks,
I had a revisit to Willington today with LIO112 and Jimba, we found a funny hatch thingy, upon dragging it to the side we found a ladder, I cautiously decended to find a small walkway above various pipes and valves, leading to the flooded underground parts, the room seems to house pump controls, and is in pristine condition inside.

I Wonder What Is Under This Rusty Hatch?

It is sort of at the back, near the Right end of the Substation if you are viewing it from the towers, the hatch is on a piece of hardstanding, next to another hatch which has a yellow fence around it :)

The ladder does go down further, but there is quite a bit of water so waders are needed for full investigation, I don't think there is much under it, just a small pipe leading into a massive (flooded) underground structure.

Hey where's the control room?

I may have worded that wrong, it's not a massive main control room by any means, But It does have a few biggish switchboards, so I believe it may have been somthing to do with water/coal management maybe.

Top find on that underground bit !!!
Full marks for poking about that extra bit,it payed off well.
loving the pepper pot shot too ! Nice one. :)

Thanks folks! If any of you are going back to Willington in the near future, PM me and I can show you where the fabled yellow and black striped hatch is :)

Nice find guys & great pics. Haven't had the pleasure of doing this site yet, think i may have to make a visit on the the next roadtrip.

Thank you :) It's a nice relaxed place to stroll round, and the cooling towers make great echos. There are plenty of other underground hidey holes too, but quite a few are filled with water, if you are feeling brave you could crawl down the underground water pipes.

Nah, it's not too hard :)
Tell me if you ever want to do Willington, I would happily tag along, I always love going there, despite having been about 5 or 6 times now
