I have done a report on this place before but as james.s and co had found an underground pump room I fancied a return trip.
Here are are few photos of what the station used to look like.

Yup, an enjoyable look around with Ashless and Fezzyben, we decided not to do the 2 foot high culvert ;)

Firstly, thanx for the link to the old pics..will check that later...very good set of pics there fellas and I like the "tower porn" one.Any idea about the future of the site? There was a report some months back that demo was starting..its 2 years since I went and the towers still resolutley stand firm.Thanx for this one:lol:

The local residents were against the 500 home development proposed for the site, and npower whom own the site are believed to be looking into building a gas fired power station on the site according to the local news :)

I think that is what is happening, Fezzyben lives nearby and says they are going to build a new station, so these will be demolished and replaced

so these will be demolished and replaced

More then likely, the former coal powered station at Staythorpe in Nottinghamshire has been entirely demolished to make way for a gas powered station there. Another is also being built adjacent to West Burton in Nottinghamshire... I'm sure a local explorer will be enlightening us to whats cracking off there soon ;)

Gas powered stations generally don't use the same kind of cooling tower because they're closed systems and don't generate the same levels of emissions...
