British DiaMalt originated in the early 1900's and was once a World-leading manufacturer of malt products, cereal extracts and beer, cider and wine kits.
Following in Newark's rich (yet now lost) brewing tradition, the company have been based here for over 100 years, until its closure in 2006.
The site is built around existing original malting's but they were unfortunately and horrifically ''modernised'' in the early 1990's now leaving only the option of demolition.
It is sad to see Newark's last functioning malt company go, it was once only a small part of a massive brewing and malting industry that lined the bank of the Trent either side of the town.
(Most are now gone, sadly most burned in the late 90's, but the odd few are still standing...just now as ''tasteful'' housing for undesirables..)
Anyhoo, not much to see really but thought it was worth documenting as i was there.. just in time too.
Only problem now is how to shift the smell of malt extract off me...

Was a good explore for a spur of the moment- solo mission, sorry if not many external shots.. it appeared that out of sight stealth was going to be key...

Excellent work LL. Is this next to the canal in Newark? I think me and Mendo tried to get near to have a look at it late last year, but couldn't get as near as we wanted to. ;) good to see a lot of stuff left in situ. Are they in the process of demolishing the place now then? :(

Excellent pic missy,

:) Sal

Ooh, this is nice. Love the brickwork, the arch with braces and those metal circles in the wall.
Still a fair bit to see, by the look of it. Nice work. :)

Yep, sadly they're really cracking on with the demo on it at the min.
And also, yes its near the Trent...Its on the industrial estate near the massive Warwicks brewery and what is now Homebase.
Theres a few good mooching bits between there and just past Millgate on the other side of the castle, well worth a look on a nice day. :)
