Oilite Bearings produced self-lubricating bearings and sintered components for more than 70 years.

For many years it was part of Manganese Bronze Holdings, best known for making London's iconic black taxi's. In 2003 the components division was sold to BSA Holdings, which went into administration in 2006, and Oilite Bearings became a stand-alone company.

The company continued to make bearings on site untill 2008 when they again went into administration. The name and all of the equipment was bought by a firm called Bowman a UK based competitor, though its not clear if they are still producing in the UK.

Nice work chap, always good to see an unsmashed lab, like the one at Bridon wireworks used to be.....

Crikey! I have some of those bearings on my lathe!

Another part of our industrial heritage gone down the pan eh?

I wonder what parts they supplied to Rover??

Ooooooooh love the forties part of the factory, and loving that lab. So much stuff in there still left. In fact, I'm surprised there's so many things still left all over the place. Excellent find and excellent pics. I do like this. :)

:) Sal

A breath of fresh air this fella...is this site related to your other with the steering wheel machines?

Excellent set of photos – liking the subtle tones, and the intact lab glassware. :)

I remember machining that stuff on a lathe when I was an apprentice, nasty smelly stuff which gave you dirty hands. Interesting to see where it came from. Nice one:)
