With the State of security at clipstone recently the place has been getting more and more trashed, myself and RM were in the area a while back and thought we'd put our time to good use!.

Just thought i'd post up a couple of photos showing what a differance an afternoons tidying can make :)

I really enjoyed seeing Clipstone a while back, and it looks like it's been seriously trashed since then: so well done for tidying it up a bit. It's good to realise once in a while that decline doesn't have to irreversible. :)

Thats what our aim was really, to show that while it has been damaged it can still be cleaned up to look good again, there's still lots to do here though and we'll definitely be going back to try to keep things clear and hopefully improve on what we did last time.

It seemed like a few hours well spent.

nice work there with that bit of tidying

in the new september edition of classic plant and machinery there is an article about the clean up at clipstone with some pictures dating back to the heyday of the mine

Very good work!
Well done on doing this :)
Unfortunatley those pikies I encounted may have ripped it up again now

Any recent pictures of this area? Even if the Pikey's make another mess it will be worth clearing again. Might start tidying up the broken ceramics insulators next time,

I didn't go in there, I decided to leave before anything bad happened, the pikies seemed to be working beneath the winder furthest from the road, maybe at the base of the headstocks if they extend under the winding house - you know more about it than me. They seemed to have been there a while though, and more were joining them as we left, so I am unsure of the situation. Definately worth tidying it again though :)

I think that the pikey situation is something we should all be watching more now. Over the last two weeks the scrap price of ferrous metals has increased by at least 10%. That may not seem like much but it is enough to make any metal harvesting worth their while.
A good way to tell if prices have increased is to look for extra pikey pickups wandering the streets collecting scrap appliances etc.

It's been trashed even worse than what it was like before you cleaned it up now. Parts of the 1900hp motors in the winding house have been gas-axed off too now. It's horrible

I'd ask about pictures, but I don't know if i want to see.

Pretty much back to the "before" shots; unfortunately.

The bit WOTS and Reaperman cleaned is worse than before. I was considering giving it the once over, but without a few hours, there was nothing really we could do. I do have one or two pictures, but they came out a bit crap. The main winding house has had the large motors cut open now. It's really going downhill fast. We closed our access point after us, but there is no doubt people will get in if they are determined enough to trash it.

Funny you should mention that. There was a few people with angle grinders and pick up trucks at steetley the other day.

Not a surprise, but that was already trashed quite literally to hell. This was quite a nice site :(
Steetley is still fun though :)

I'd be interested to see some pictures - there wasnt really much copper left in the winders as most of the windings were removed by the CA a fair while back. unless there trying to get the bearings out i wouldnt have thought it would be worth the cost of the acetylene

Here are some picttures - I apologise for the shocking quality, I'd left my camera on MF without knowing
The actual motors have been chopped open, so it seems that someone is after the bearings.

Some of the Safety cages you put back seem to have disappeared completely now
