I spotted Caldwell's from the train, and so decided to explore it as soon as I could. It's been explored before, e.g. this report by Wolfism, which provides a detailed history of the site, which closed in the autumn of 2003. Although there's a fair bit of damage, there's still plenty to see. There are warnings of asbestos, so if you decide to visit it, do go protected.

Oh Cool!
I've STILL never been here, was a toss up between Caldewlls of Patons. I chose Patons and got abused by the Neds "get yer tits oooot" ...
Anyway... Loving the black and white tiling on the roof :D

What's cool about this place is that the outside is generally buggered but with some interesting things to look at and when you make your way right into the centre where the offices are, there's a lot to see. (some of my pics)

I've a video somewhere which I must dig out of the time when we found the sprinkler system control valves and had some fun making water powered bells ring and a rather large pipe regurgitating years of mud with some force!

I went to Patons in Johnstone too after looking around Shilton AA and Drumcross, but it's now a lot more trashed than Caldwell's (including extensive fire damage), and so I didn't stay long. I'm not even sure if the photos I took are worth putting up. Even Mossley-Sartel in Lille is in a better state for those who want to see a thread mill.

Caldwells is huge, and while there's some vandalism, much of the site is still well-preserved, maybe because getting to those parts means having to make your way there in near total darkness. Go there when you can.

Sorry to hear about the neds. I usually explore on my own, so if I hear anyone, I avoid them even if it means making a hasty exit. Most likely they're either seccers or up to no good.

We had words with a gang of drunken Pikeys when we were there :( I reckon they've had the last of the scrap from what I gathered, so it shouldn't go any further down-hill, apart from natural decay now :)

It's a grand place, the labs and offices are such a hidden gem, good to see it again.

Hey it's a bit rude to link to your own photos in someone else's location thread.

Nice photos, I really enjoyed it at Caldwell's. It's very photogenic, I'd like to get round to exploring it fully.

I'm planning on going here sooner rather than later in case it gets too bad or empty.

Nice one dave, good to see another of your random sojourns north.

Yes, we must meet next time I'm up your way. Probably not until next summer, though.

Good to see another take on it – looks like despite the metal thieves, there's still a lot left. :)

Some decent shots here! I like the overview, first photo I've seen from that angle.

I spent the best part of a day exploring here but realise I still only covered about three quarters of it. When I located the offices and labs that slowed me down a lot :) really must get my pics up, although it'll only be different angles of the same stuff of course.

Since I'm not far from Inverkeithing, if anyone fancies an explore just drop me a PM and we can arrange something :)

Good to see it's stabilising - it was decaying really quickly for a while. It's still a lovely place to visit. I'm slowly working on restoring a model we recovered from here:
