Smile Herdman's Mill Northern Ireland. Sept 09

My first posted report so be nice!! I thought I may as well start as I mean to go on. ;)

Those from Ireland will have seen or heard of this mill. Reportedly the largest spinning mill in the whole of Ireland, finally closed in 2004 and has lay vacant ever since. A recent refurbishment of a small portion of the mill by the NT has taken place, but a good 3/4 of the mill are derelict and abandoned.

You can see the refurbished section on the LHS.

Sorry about the amount of pictures, I wasn't sure what to leave out. There are a few more HERE

So far we've been three times, and we have still got a new section to explore, probably the biggest urbex site I've been to in NI.

Nice photos, it looks like a really special place. I'll have to head back to Ireland at some point!

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
