Was driving back from a walk on the good ol` moors with my dad, and we discovered this little beauty:mrgreen:

Can`t seem to find much info on it yet, but on talking to a couple of others that we bumped into (luckily nice people!!) they told us that this was closed in the early 1990`s. Nature is taking over the actual quarry face at quite a rate but the buildings which are complete are in a very good state.

Anyway have a look at the pics and make your own mind up, when I find some additional info on the site I`ll post it.

Enjoy!!

Thanks for looking:)

Nice pics JC. It's a fantastic site, just a big shame they removed the crane & old machinery since i last visited in 2006.

Nice photos...

I was actually there too over the weekend. Didn't see anyone else though. Such a shame the crane as gone.

Quarries

kernowexpeditionary Hi
Great Pic's, yes I know of this place and several more in Devon. came across aload which I explored bach in the late 80s early 90s whilst searching on the o/s maps for potential carp lakes. There are loads in Devon along with lime kilns . Also lots of china clay pits just across in cornwall that are worth a look at. I used to fish an old copper mine at a place called spinsters rock, Bradmere pool I belive it was called. We knew it as Beechmere Pool as it was written about by the author "BB"

i visited this place around 2003 as my parents have a caravan in perter tavy which is just down the road and it has deteriorated so much in a short space of time. i remeber it as having the crane in place and loads of big stone type gringing wheels all over the place in one of the larger buildings. we looked into one small shed and found the remains of a dead sheep rotting away and smelling awful.

It was a shame we didn`t see the crane as it looks pretty impressive from the picture (thanks Kernow:mrgreen::mrgreen:), it looks like a few buildings have been knocked down too just recently:(
