Courageous (non member) and I have hit Pyestock a couple of times recently, firstly taking in the usual Cell 3/4 hotspots, and then a few of the older buildings. I was disappointed with 3 in particular, finally proving to myself that the doors were just part of the filmset! Too good to be true I guess.

On a subsequent visit we ended up in Cells 1+2, and felt like we hit Pyestock gold. I think these cells are where you can really see what went on there, probably due to the fact that they are far more compact and self-contained. The accompanying control and exhaust complexes complete that vision of the whole process, although the science of what actually happened there is obviously still far far beyond most of us.

For those that haven't done so, I strongly recommend spending time in this area. Its quite magical.

Simon Cornwell's site seem to have the best info on what actually happened there - check out http://www.ngte.co.uk/doc/doc/etf4.htm

At the far end of Cell 2 is a Spray Carriage, used to spray water into the exhaust in order to cool it and reduce the noise.

And finally, a Pyestock pipes shot - just because I was really pleased with this one.

And did they let you in?

Excellant shots Hpipe..some very different angles indeed..I too love cells 1 and 2...below is some detail of what went on inside:

Thanks for the comments guys. Appreciate it.

@night crawler - I'm not certain, but in general, yes these cells were used to test various types of engines. They were designed to simulate altitude conditions I believe. See all the stuff on Klempners WebShots for masses of detail.

@Klempner - Cheers fella. The amount of info you have is amazing. I could spend weeks reading (and understanding) that lot.

@housemouse - any detail on that rumour? I feel like I have so much to see there, and such little time to do it now.

Is that so...I heard a rumour that there might problems with that......?

last I heard was the local residents and the local council were going to try and take the case to the EU court of appeal to get the decision overturned seeing as it was the government that stumped up the cash for Tesco to build the monstrocity. Here's hoping there is as long a delay as possible.

Hpipe, demo is gonna take place at Pye' in around 18 months-ish, as far as I know, I know some people that have dealings here and they tell me this is the case, so we all have a little while to enjoy it whilst we can!

Yes, I've also had some information saying this may be the case (possibly from the same source?). Anyway, I really hope its true as I want to spend a shitload more time here. Its utterly brilliant!!

Excellent stuff hpipe, this is another place that I must get too soon.

There is an issue with the planning permission. All the advisors from local gov't upwards advised refusal of the planning application. There were thousands of objections from residents and a group set up to protest against the development.

Now, someone, somewhere in the Planning departments of Gov. approved the application, against ALL reccomendations. Worse still, nobody knows who approved it. To a lot of local people, that stinks of a vested interest and corruption.
