Welcome to Thorpe March readers, or rather the remains of it. Built in 1959, this coal fired beast supplied electricity to the National Grid until the mid 1990's. Today much of the buildings have long gone, leaving behind the thrilling explore of six cooling towers. And some railway lines.

I've wanted to visit here for ages, and to see inside these massive towers.

The only none cooling tower buildings on site are the remains of two ash slurry hoppers. The late autumn sunlight made for some nice silhouettes. Being one of the worst climbers in the UK today, I remained firmly on the rubble.

Inside a couple of the towers were the remains of a walkway. The picture on the left shows the doorway to access it, the stairs long cut away.

This part was very good too. Beneath my feet was a flooded coal hopper.

Staircase into the flooded coal hopper. I don't know what the thing is under the water. A cement mixer? Sadly I had forgotten my trunks.

Definitely worth a visit if you have not been already. A shot I took of the decommissioned power station at night.

nice work, i love the green viaduct like one in the chimney.

Where does the fire escape in the photo go?

Stunning photographs Mr Boxfrenzy-you're getting some fantastic shots out of that camera! Top job!

I really like these pics very much..although you say there isnt much there, there is a lot more than at Willington where I went 3 years back..I always like to see the shots of the digger too.Thanx for these.

Nice!

I really like the first shot. The mysterious railway line into the forest and then you spot the outline of the giant cooling tower through the trees.

Yay!:)

Love the pics I especially like the low down one of the railtracks. and the other rail track ones. Like a rail road to some mystic land.

Fuck me sideways mate those first three hurt my eyeballs! Other than that, excellent pictures, and the HDR even looks half decent. Spot on ;)

I do like these. Love the pics of what's left of the rail lines, we didn't go that side of the powerstation when we went. :( Love that last pic mate, that looks great. :)

Very, very nice, love them all, (but obviously love the railway ones, i love anything to do with railways :) )

Cheers,

:) Sal
