Formerly known as William King Mill, this was absorbed into Allied Mills. It was closed in 2001. I got to go there as part of my job as a surveyor. It is well secured and there is 24 hour security, CCTV etc. Also, the buildings are locked up. I managed to get in one, again for works reasons. The site is to be redeveloped, however the old mill building will be retained and refurbished. According to the security guy, when it was decommissioned, they were not able to get all the flour and grain out of the silos and milling area. Consequently, the place is infested with rats and pigeons. The floor of the main mill building is covered in rat mess and stinks, and a covered delivery bay area is full of pigeon mess, and also stinks.

Oh, very nice! I love old mills like this. Tell me, is this Uxbridge in Middlesex, just on the edge of West London?

That's the one Liam. Sites like this may be the perks of the job, but for each one of these, there is a lot of standing round in cold, wet muddy field, or working in the not-so-nice part of some town - or worse than that, Lewisham!!!
