A sad place.........
Oh no, not another Pyestock report!!

It’s funny how you can get attached to certain sites, and from the very first time I saw images of NGTE at Pyestock, I knew it was a very special place.

I’ve been 3 times now, once solo, and twice with my regular partner in crime Urbanity, along with a few others on the most recent trip.

The thing that always sticks in my mind when walking around Pyestock, is that every single last detail on the site, every pipe, switch, dial and Turbine was purpose made just for this site, and is totally individual.
Perhaps that’s what makes this Petro-chemical and asbestos riddled industrial monolith just so appealing!

As for the history of the site, www.ngte.co.uk is the most informative and in depth source of information available anywhere.

The future of what is one of the most important industrial sites ever built, now lies in the hands of Prupim and Prologis, who intend to clear the site and built a large distribution centre, all in the name of progress!
A few photo’s, some of which may have been seen before, (sorry!)

Thanks for looking!

I never tire of seeing photos of this place. Keep 'em coming whilst there's still stuff to see.

Still one of my favourite explores, an amazing site with sooooooo many areas to explore and so many remnants to see. We spent around ten hours in the place and really only scratched the surface.

Nice to see it's still explorable, although I gather with much more care than the early days :)

New reports and photos always welcome!

Been told on the unofficial grapevine, that demo work is now on hold.
Apparently the developers can't afford the 8 figure demo and clean up price tag!!

Are the ex-Ghurka's still doing the security here?

There is one gurkha who sits in the cabin, and one who isn't, who told one of my co-explorers last time - after a bungled first attempt at entry - that he regularly does patrols just to get away from him!

There is also a Jeep they drive around in but you can hear it from a mile off.

If/when they even start the process of clearing the site, it'll be a good couple of years before it finally goes at the least!

I would assume the powers that be will instruct a site survey to assess all hidden nasties like asbestos, chemicals and the like, then do a risk assesment of clearing these before any demo begins..at Swindon Borough Council,we have just taken a temporary possesion of the Mechanics Institute, and you wouldnt believe the rigmarol thats being processed in order to even go inside the place..none of us can enter for at least 3 months.Imagine surveying Pyestock in its entirety then applying all the various tests...then removal of toxic substances can start and this will be a long process for sure.I can`t see any actual demo work being done till next summer, but then again if the moneys there then the place could get swamped.A suck it n see scenerario perhaps!

Some really terrific engineering here. I especially like the shot that appears to be a turbine hall. Excellent, well done :)

Yes it's the Air house.
8 turbines, producing a combined total of 400,000HP, and capable of pushing winds of 2000mph through those blue pipes!
Each one is 3 storeys high, with steam generators etc underneath

The engineering as I put in my write up is both incredible, and unique, which is why it's so sad this will all be gone at some stage.

Totally one of a kind site, when it goes and all that is left are photos and memories we should all feel very glad we got to see a unique bit of Britain's industrial history

I believe at it's height of operation the 8 exhausters still weren't enough, so No.9 Exhauster was built in the North-West corner of the site to add a bit more boost.

Bit of a lurker talking here..

I would like to visit this site, can someone PM me who has knowledge of the site who would like to discuss.

Thanks,
