Colthrop Paper Mill, Thatcham.

Well i live just down the road from this place and it was my very first explore :) I didn't really think much of the place when i first visited it as a kid but it has kind of grown on me over the past few weeks. So, thought its about time i did a report about it.

sorry for the lack of internal shot only had my phone on me and although it has quite a lot of setting flash is not one of them :| I also tried out a panoramic shot which was a new feature i found that day so here we go :D

First some history about the place.

There has probably been a mill at Colthrop since the time of the Domesday Survey in 1086, but references to it are few and far between until more recent times.
In 1956 the Reed Paper Group Limited took over the whole Colthrop site. Paper sack manufacture had been started at Colthrop in 1927 in 1930 this operation had been transferred to Aylesford and sold to Albert.E.Reed and Company in 1932. Then in 1950 the Reed Company took a financial interest in the Colthrop site, subsequently taking over completely. In May 1955, work was started on a new building, (the North Board Mill), and completed in May, 1958, at a cost of £5 million; a third board machine was then inita1 led in it. The two paper-making machines were later shut down, one in 1966 and the other in 1971, so that paper-making effectively ceased at Colthrop from the latter date.

Now on to the report :D

First ever panoramic shot what do you think guys?

Was a very Dodgey climb up the 30 year old tower where the ladder has either fallen off or been cut off half way up :p the things i do for pictures eh? :L

Not a bad explore! Just as I was getting into it, you posted the night shots!!! Not so good. Get a tripod and use long exposures instead of the horrible built in flash!
Other shots weren't so bad!:)

Scary! The drowning pools in the dark! Creepy enough in the daylight.

You've inspired me to return and finish my inspection, but maybe in daylight.

Thanks very much for the advice I will take it into consideration. It was my first real explore with my new camera so i thought i would try it out at night, will definitely be buying myself a tripod when I get the money to get one :)

The place has grown on me since my first ever visit. It's a nice mini explore to pass some time :D The drowning pools are spooky especially when its all silent and you hear a duck splashing around and it makes you jump :L

Looks a good place for a wander around. The night shots are quite spooky.
