Kirkstall Forge was probably founded by monks from Kirkstall Abbey in the 1100s or 1200s. Metal has been worked there since then. The site is huge, but as only the entrance is visible from the road, most people don't know the scale of what is there. The site covers several acres.

The combination of this and the fact that this is a working site with security at the entrances means that there has been little or no vandalism or graffiti.

There are plans to turn the whole area into a leisure park. Presently some of the larger more modern units are rented and occupied. The rest consists of huge sheds where the machines have been ripped out. Will post some pics in a bit. In fact, here they are now:
