Hay folks, well myself and my partner in grime chris34 and of course my dear old mother Kathyms visited this site last week. Now this place has been visited and recorded so many time’s but to be fair it is coming close to being in the same league as cane hill or St Crispin’s on the urbex map.
Well the site we visited was the former bass Maltings in Sleaford in Lincolnshire and for those who have not seen any of the other thread’s here is a bit of history in brief; The whole complex was designed by H A Couchman, In 1901 The Engine House and Boiler House were built first followed by the Malthouses. The first reason that Sleaford was chosen it’s near the areas where the English malting barley primarily grew. Second, the site had sufficient water available. Third, the seasonal labour came from the barley growing areas and was easy to obtain in Sleaford.
In 1958 Production stops due to the advent of new malting processes and the size and inefficiency of the Malthouses.
In 1973 a small part of the Malting’s where used for vegetable processing and freezing and Poultry rearing. This ceased in 1990.
In 1974 the maltings was listed grade 2
In 1996 a fire destroyed a large part of the maltings a fire which was know in the local rag as the worst fire Sleaford had ever seen.
So on with the pics

Cool stuff its a nice place for a wander, did you go on the top of the tower?
One other thing, you can't put St Crispins in the same league as Cane Hill ;)

Great Images. This place looks massive, did you manage to cover it all? Love the image of the wooden foot bridge. Thanks for posting!

Thanks mate, we got to see most of it but then the security van turned up so it was time for a shady exit was a top explore though :err:

Enjoy it while you can, our local council has given the go ahead for its re-development, to start late this year

slight factual error re the fire, it was 1976

Yeah sorry mate my mistake your right after a bit of late reading last night there where three fires 1969, 1976 which was where three of the maltings where severely damaged and the last in 1999.
But what a fantastic set of buildings I was overwhelmed when we first pulled up to the place, I am sure it would make a lovely load of flats but in no way to bring in the bulldozers hopefully with it being grade 2 listed might be protected somewhat and so it should be as they have so much character. Cheers pal. Alex

Looks to be an interesting, if somewhat dangerous place to have a good look round. I don't like the look of those rotten floors though!

I think discretion is the better part of valor in this case

nice shots from you both
hope you took a look at nocton hall and St johns
only up the road :)

Thanks Matt, we did have a look for a old asylum while we was in this part of Lincolnshire’s neck of the woods but after talking to some elderly locals and touring around a good couple of miles of country lanes we found a site which was a new build but with a few old buildings which may resemble an old hospital/asylum and never knew Nocton hall was there or St johns to be honest but always up for a explore how near or far.

And thank you foxylady

old lady mmm

i supose i should be graitfull alex its normaly the old dear lol. anyway yes it was a brill day. it was a shame the asylum was gone but the houses are ummm nice.
