Down there somewhere
I drove by this place whilst on a non UE day out nearby, got a bit lost and spied it as I drove by. It's a big site, but the buildings occupying it are relatively small. The old mill is architecturally the most interesting, though my exterior pics of it were few and sucky. The newer mill building is ugly outside, white plastic weather boarding, but interesting inside, also has two average sized silos out the back, nice country views from top.

As well as the two significant mill buildings there are various outbuildings that seem to have been seperate businesses. Some very modern, some very old, older than the old mill in one case, a fantastic barn that is begging to be an uber special house! Let's hope it's kept!

The entire site is up for sale as a commercial development plot, all the machinery in the modern mill has auction tags on it, but having closed in 1999 and the lot tags looking rather decrepid, I'm guessing the auction never went ahead?

It's worth a mooch if you're in the area, but not one to travel miles to get to.

Very nice pics and looks a good location, did you manipulate the pics on Photoshop or something or did you use a Black and white setting on our camera?

Have you got an infra-red filter JD, 'cos I've always wondered what culverted rivers would look like in infra-red? Or any underground stuff really.

I've never bothered with B&W, and don't really plan to do so extensively.

I bought an infrared filter recently and this is the first place I've been since owning it to try it out, and the first results of said filter. The best results with the filter seemed to be acheived with the camera set to B&W. It's an interesting thing, super thick and so exposures need to be a good second or two even in blinding midday sunlight, which is probably the best time to be getting shots with it.

:)

Hey Rikj!

Yeah, I'd thought the same myself, you can buy IR lamps, so I wonder what sort of result that would acheive? Be interesting to find out, expect it'd mean some super long exposures. . . . might look into it?

Ah that would be Scats mill then, not sure what its real name is but thats what its known as locally owing to the fact that the livestock feed manufacturer of the same name owned it for some time, coz i live fairly nearby and had been wondering if it would be a viable location, looks like the answer to that is yes!

There's a pillbox hidden in the undergrowth as well - it was on the GHQ stop line
