Hafod Copper works, Swansea, Wales - April 2012

This is my first report, and I hope you enjoy it. The pictures aren't the best quality, but I am investing to buy a more decent camera soon :)

Me (Crim), my friend Katsa and also my friend Jinx went on our first scouting!

Hafod copper works was created by John Vivian, "Vivian & sons" in 1810, and is a Grade II listed building. During the 1800's, Hafod copper works was the largest copper works in tge world, and hence why Swansea's nickname was "Copperopolis" or "Copper kingdom", and produced 60% of the worlds copper requirement. It continued supplying copper all around the world until its closure in 1980.

The two engine houses, and intact chimneys (which were built to drive the rolling mills) still remain, adjacent to the remains of the machinery.

There is also a locomotive shed a few minutes walk from the engine houses which was built for the first standard gauge locomotive in Britain. The name "Vivian's" is spelt out above the locomotive shed in polychromic brickwork. (The pictures are of inside the shed, as I could not get a clear view of the words to take a picture)

We found a few off-side rooms, and one (what we suspect to be) an air raid shelter.

We also have a few pictures of each other which I will include!

I am also a fan of some of the graffiti that was left, which is unusual for me!

Looks ok for a first report, can't see any problem with it. What camera are you currently using? If you want to improve your pictures then invest in a tripod before shelling out on a new camera, you will be suprised at the results (Night shots & light painting for a start)

I have a vivitar vivicam 9126 - I was strapped for cash at the time and it only cost £20. It came in useful when I needed it!
