A couple of recent explores local to me. I have merged the reports as I don't think either really have quite enough content to work on their own :)

Barrett's Riverside Works, Boston

Barretts manufactured (and still do) horticultural, agricultural and packhouse machinery for Lincolnshire's farms. They moved from their 'riverside works' to a unit on an industrial estate quite a few years back now. The buildings, in a prime riverside spot, are soon to be demolished and redeveloped into 24 apartments and flats.

Throughout the explore I felt rather uncomfortable with the huge amount of hypodermic syringes and evidence of occupation. The main workshop was inaccessible.

The Bass Maltings, Sleaford

Building of the Bass Maltings began in 1901, and was completed in 1906, when malting began in the first four malthouses. The site and level of production grew over the next two years. Gradual modernisation led to less and less space being required, and in 1945 spare space was let out to local tradesmen. Malting stopped in 1959 and the first catastrophic fire occurred ten years later. The buildings were next used in 1973 for chicken rearing and vegetable processing, and three years later the next fire occurred. An application for demolition was later turned down. The buildings have been out of use since the 1990s, and the most recent fire occurred in 1999. Applications have been made to convert it all to apartments, currently up in the air due to council disputes. The future is uncertain.

My explore was rather interesting. I got rather stuck under a particularly disagreeable Heras fence and ripping my clothes up over some barbed wire, although I did make it into the main site. I could, however, only access two (not hugely interesting) buildings on this occasion.

I will be making a revisit - please do PM me if you fancy joining me for it :)
