Was out walking with my daughter today when in the distance I spotted this:

Being nosy and not seeing anyone about we headed off in the direction of the buildings and entered some small woods where we discovered these:

as we followed them we could see through the trees some cool looking buildings:

The place looks huge and complete:

We walked back to the car and drove round in the direction of where we thought it was and discovered its entrance. It is closed down and is guarded. The security guard came out when i pulled up and had a chat. There are several rumors that it is either going to be knocked down or some of it will be removed and then left as is, who knows ! The company that owned (Rugby Cement) were trying to win a contract to take spoil being dug out inLlondon and transported to here to fill in the original gravel pit at the rear but they have not won the contract (there is still a railway spur that works leading of the mainline at Foxton and into the works. An order was put in to Cambridge Council for demolition and was due to start in April but has now been put on hold.

I think it will make a cracking explore as it is huge and complete, will just depend on how brave you are as there were guard dogs on site

I got these last pics from outside the main gate where the security Guard is

Cheers for looking Steve

where i took the pictures from by the old railway line will be the best entrance point, it should be out of sight of the guard hut as well, I only saw 1 guy on duty but there were CCTV sign everywhere so I can't be sure if its just him or not. The guard hut is just to the left of the Land Rover in the last picture. the railway line is down the hill and behind the large building that is also behind the land rover...

Good work so far! You've said the secco guard came over for a chat, that's good!! Once you find they will talk to you I try the twenty in the wind trick, worked 3 out of 4 times! Once even got me a guided tour, good luck GF:mrgreen:

Cement Works Barrington

Great pictures of the CEMEX UK Cement works at Barrington.

The Plant closed in 2008 and the owners have recently announced that they will not reopen the plant and that demolition will begin shortly. Its not going to be missed by those of us who live in the area as it used to leave a layer of dust over everything for miles.

Guy's I'd have kept all that to yourselvs as security will proably be looking at what you said so do yourself a favor and remove it

Just seen a comment on another website about this place that security are right on the ball, got caught pretty much straight away on entry, not sure if there are cameras. motion sensors etc but also going in smack bang in the day isn't the best idea !!

Twenty in the wind???

Lets hope the owners decide it's not worth paying out for security and abandon it completely, it looks like an ace one.
