Happened across this disused quarry when out walking on holiday recently in Derbyshire.

Entrance to Quarry showing exterior of buildings

Wandered around the bottom half of the site for something like 20 minutes. It was apparent from the paperwork we found in the office that the site had finished being used in the mid-late 90s- piecing the story together from memos lying around it seems that the quarry had been worked out of all easily extracted stone within the limits of its planning consent, and so shut. I assume that it's proximity to houses/ the village meant it was unlikely to be able to expand. Another quarry is still however operating a few hundred yards away.

Paperwork suggests that the company was trading all over the country- drawings, quotes and job cards existed for jobs in Manchester, Isle of Man and Southampton, as well as more locally.

Existing now is the large main sheds, with a couple of gantry cranes inside, but other than these, completely stripped. There is evidence of saw pits behind the main building, but no machinery. Into the body of the quarry, there isn't a huge amount to be seen as a lot of it has been backfilled. There are a couple of very large stone retaining walls however.
