I noticed this place Google maps while checking out a pillbox nearby I thought it was an old sewage works. Then while checking out the pillbox , I could see this large concrete tower that looked like a hopper. Curiosity got the better and I walked on along the towpath to see if I could get a closer shot. Well would you know it the fence was down in one place and it was rude not to pay a visit, I don't have a clue as to what it is I can only think it was the old paper mill. These are a few of the photo's I took round the place.

    First view of the place.

One of the upright pipe support bases.

    Dam big hopper.

    Part of the site.

    Some of the overhead pipes.

Don't have a clue what this is.

    More pipes.

    Even more in the trees.

Think there could be a bit missing here.

    Even the portacabin's been nicked.

    Big blue hopper.

Tower in the trees and no I did not climb it, I may be old but not stupid.

    Years of built up crud.

Did climb up on this though.

    Drive motors.

    Down one of the pipes.

Few more pipes for good measure.

    View across to the hopper.

    Across the mixer.

    A few handles.

And we end with a sluce gate.
Thats the lot, might be worth a return some time in the winter if it is still there and there are more photos on Flickr and there is also my Blog http://spuduka.blogspot.co.uk/

Isn't it great when you find somewhere unexpectedly! Our last one saw us wandering around in an old derelict shopping bags in hand and dressed in "normal" clothes!

Done this place several times. Last time I went I tripped as I came out through the fence and almost put a passing cyclist into the canal. Watch out for junkies! Did you spot the old portakabin (not the bust one) with clear evidence of addiction nefariousness! It's an interesting place though - and usually peaceful too.

Warning: do not stare at a laser beam with your remaining good eye

presume you mean the portaloo though I did see a Grundon cabin as well took a photo of them but it was out of focus. Never saw any one around though it was early in the morning.

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
