I've pretty much explored every quarry in and around somerset but came across this place and cannot find any info on it or a name .

It looks fairly old because of the old machinery and buildings.

There seemed to be 2 entres into the mine which have now been closed up and from looking around the place it looked like not to many people have visited it because all the out building where hidden in the woods.

The main quarry its self is filled with water and sheer cliffs around it apart from the corner of the lake where the buildings where.

Sorry about the crap pictures, only had my iphone on me.

Pics look good but does it not have a GPS on it to show where you are, from that you could find out the quarry name.

Going to look a bit more into it with some older maps as google maps is showing nothing/no name and also did a search using the local villages and roads, still nothing

I can tell you exactly what quarry that is, because I went there last week.

It opened in 1904, and closed in 1925.

If you looked closely you would have seen an old steam crane in the lake in the top picture, in fact if you look on Google maps, you can actually see the crane in the picture.

Cracking place, not many people know about it, and they've just reinforced one of the entry points as someone had removed a gateway.

I would urge people not to pinpoint its exact location, as there is a lot of metal lying about that has remained undisturbed for a LONG time.

Proof of the fact its virtually untouched is that there is ZERO modern rubbish lying around, other than a few locals, its one of those places that people have utterly forgotten about.

Its Downhead quarry, opened in 1904, and closed in 1925.

Yes found out a lot more information on it now and you are correct with your info. I did notice the crane in the water :)

Its a lovely explorer like you said its untouched with no graffiti etc

Hopefully will go back for another look when its a bit more dry as it was so boggy when I went because of all the rain we had.
