It and was built in 1857,The early mill had a capacity of 300 looms and was used till1864. Following that, a tenant during the 1870s and the mill was empty for a year until leased. by a Manufacturing Company in November 1886, for fifty years the company ran 320 looms at the mill.
In 1900, a local cotton manufacturer, formed a company with a capital of £30,000 in £1 shares to run looms.
The mill was lighted by acetylene gas made at the mill but there was an explosion in October 1915 which blew the heavy gasometer high into the air and shattered it to pieces. The acetylene was dispensed with and an electrical lighting plant was installed. The mill closed under the Government Textile Industry Reorganisation Scheme in June 1941 and during the Second World War the premises were used for storage.
The mill was reopened in 1947 the mill and ran some looms for cotton and rayon manufacture. In 1957 they installed the first tufted carpet machine and began to manufacture carpets. The mill was converted to run on electricity in 1960 and the steam engine was removed and from 1963 the mill was used solely for carpet manufacture. For over fifty years for the manufacture of carpets. Then loosk like it was used to make moulds and garden ponds.
