Good evening Ladies and gentlefolk. For reasons that will become apparent
my visit hear was cut short and as such there are few images of this place.

I had read in another report that this place came with resident pikeys so was a
little wary of mooching round it solo... in the absence of courage, stupidity
kicked in and mooch round it solo I did.

This was the largest asbestos factory in the world but with increasing
awareness of the dangers of asbestos (who'd be daft enough to go
into old buildings containing the stuff I ask you ?) it's days were
numbered and it eventually closed in 2001.

I arrived at the site and started to look for access points - 1 set of
double doors I encountered was locked but not bolted and pulling
on them made them come out towards me a little but not enough
to gain access. I did think that a real hefty pull would likely see the
doors open but finding this a little too close to B & E for my own
moral standards I decided to pass on this one.

The site if huuuuuuuuuge and I walked around for quite some
time seeing the odd potential access point ....... for someone half
my age and weight but not for this wrecked , knackered old
body. I found a way into one part and thought I might return to this part
later on. In one part I was able to get into a part of the building
but only as far as the stairwell as getting into the factory floors
was beyond me. Did I just hear voices ? I stood still and silent
but was not sure.

I left this building and carried on. Eventually I found an access point
within my abilities and got inside and took some photos.

I returned to the earlier access point and took some photos when
I heard a rather loud clang and some voices - I reckoned 2-3
minimum. OKaaaaay time to leave I think. I headed out the
building with still some way to go to the exit and my car.

I walked briskly keeping my eyes and ears open. As I neared the
double doors I mentioned earlier I thought to myslef "coming weeks
will see someone yank those open so I can always come back"

Little did I know - by the time I reached level with them on my exit they
were open !!!!

Fooking hell. OK quick look round this part , again standing still and listening
to see if I heard/saw anyone and when it seemed clear a quick mooch round
this part. Signs of someone squatting with a sleeping bag, upturned sofa
with significant stash of porn, TV, Microwave, heater and all sorts of bits n bobs.

I then made my exit.

If you intend visiting this site please be wary, keep wits about you and
ideally, unless you're as stupid as I, don't go solo.

Oh yes forgot to mention as I got back to car I noticed n heard some machinery and saw what I thought mighta been a fork lift. I drove back down a little to see a large, blue double metal gate (which was closed and padlocked on my way in) open on one side and two tractors with low loader trailers moving around. Authorised workers shifting stuff or Pikeys helping themselves ? Guess I'll never know.

Dont forget your respir....
Fantistic photos sir, lovely write up too! A pleasure to view. Thanks for sharing!

oh yes there's nowt like exploring solo and then hearing Pikey voices coming towards to loosen sphincter muscles :(

Glad you got in to this place and as you say it's huge :)

There was a constant tapping noise when we were in, and thankfully one of the pickeys was whistling later on otherwise we may have had a closer encounter than we had wanted.

We went as a pair due to being aware that this place is being stripped out, going solo doesn't often bother me, but even as a pair we were fairly cautious. A few quid can be made quickly from a couple of daft explorers camaras.

There's always next time, enjoyed this report and the pics, cheers :D

Cracking report there mate, made enjoyable reading.........great pics too, shame you got interrupted, would love to see more of this place.
