Woolens for Signs

[HISTORY]
Woollen & Co Ltd was established in Sheffield in 1883 by Edwin James Woollen, a signwriter and Frederick Ibbotson, a lithographic printer. By 1897 Woollens had become a limited company and was based at 35 Carver Street in Sheffield.

At some point they moved to Love Street and then in 2005 moved to new premises.

In 2008 Woollen & Co ceased trading after 125 years in business following a takeover. However a new company Woollen Signs Limited rose from the ashes and seems to be trading successfully.

[VISIT]
This place has been Sheffield's 'must see' place over the past month or so, I happened to find myself over that way and decided to call in to see it in person...I should have stopped at the nicely painted wooden gate.

It's been wide open for the past month and in that time its been blatently raped and pillaged by one and all. The most recent additions since the last report I saw appear to be a large amount of graffitti, some of it seemed to have been done by some half tallented people, but the vast majority seems to have been done by part-time school kids on their lunch break (whats-his-name was ere....the odd giant cock etc etc).

The paint which has not been used on the 'paintings' has now mostly been thrown around the floors or the available wall space (and also over the old record player which was once seen sitting happily on a windowsill).

The final notable feature which is no longer there is the giant letters, not one remains now, apparently they were taken by some former employers who were looking for a memento of their time there.

So, anyone who has not yet been and was thinking of popping in, I would not bother. I was not going to post this report, but thought I may as well to show people just how un-worth it this place now really is.

Great shots there! Such a shame to see it going downhill though...

Cheers for posting them up :)
