Some History from Wiki:
Tinsley Marshalling Yard was a railway marshalling yard, used to separate railway wagons, located near Tinsley in Sheffield, England. It was opened in 1965 as a part of a major plan to rationalise all aspects of the rail services in the Sheffield area, and closed in stages from 1985 with the run-down of rail freight in Britain. It was also the site of Tinsley Traction Maintenance Depot (TMD), which was closed in 1998. At its peak, 200 locomotives were allocated to this depot.

As of 2011 an intermodal (road-rail) freight terminal Sheffield International Rail Freight Terminal (SIRFT) is located on part of the site (built late 2000s). A set of sidings is operated by DB Schenker Rail (UK) serving the nearby Outokumpu steel works.

Thanks to HughieD for some advice. Visited on a very hot day, and with non-member (my brother). Pretty trashed now this place, but interesting to see, and you can imagine what it would have been like when many trains would have been there:

The more I see of this place the more inclined I am to see it myslef, it'll be something else that wont go down well with my superiors if I get caught though.

I don't know if anything else still exists further down the yard towards shepcote lane (behind the big grey shed) but there was a signal box and other buildings down there.

The concrete pad beneath wood lane bridge was also a signal box, but it was fire damaged so they demolished it not too long ago.

cheers guys - like HughieD says, a nice relaxed mooch this.. :)
