Box Hill Mine is a stone quarry which has been in use since Roman times.

Wikipedia has barely anything to add to that. Box Mine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is worth noting this is the first time I’ve ever taken pictures underground or in anything like this level of darkness. I’m not that bad normally. Honest.

After getting horribly, horribly lost trying to find the entrance and walking up and down country roads for the best part of three hours, we finally found the backdoor to Box. Unfortunately due to the time and the tiredness there wasn’t enough time to explore thoroughly and we only got in to the Cathedral, but next time..

Didn't notice this when it first went up! Nice one.

Never thought I'd like Box, it didn't fit in to the label of 'urban' enough for me. But had a wicked experience down there, realising I was wandering this abandoned man-made structure changed my view completely.

Love it, cheers for sharing! :)
