It was third time lucky after I had a early afternoon today and I had legged it (I drove really) up the house to grab a step ladder.
As I was the start of rush hour and the site is on a junction of a couple of busy roads, I backed the car as far as I could into the bushes. I got inside to find "Its empty" and only has a couple of rooms at one end (Also empty) To one side there is a big door looking into another floor (There's a photo somewhere) which I was not able to get down into (the steps were still outside) A friend is going to lend me some folding ladders so I can go and have a good look down there soon. there are also holes in the main floor but as my torch was up the house all I could see down there was water. (The boys in work said there was sort of machinery down there?)
Anyway, I have asked on a local forum for some information about this place, I know it served a couple of colliery's and I think they were the Glamorgan & Scotch colliery's, I will post some more info when it come is.
Here are a few photos with the rest here

It was built in 1905 and was the engine house of Llwynypia Pit.

More famous for the Pandy riots which started there in 1910.

Glamorgan (Scotch) Colliery when closed in 1945.

Llwynypia Pit (1 & 2) when sunk in 1861/62 with 3, 4, 5, and 6 sunk later in the 1870's.

Worked the Rhonnda No.3 seam until exhausted and then the Rhonnda No. 2 seam and also made bricks from the clay from No.3 pit.

Late 1890's employed over 2,000 and nearly 4,000 in 1913.

Worked the Two Feet Nine, Four Feet, New Six Feet, Five Feet, Lower Five Feet, Bute and Pentre seams in 1923. Closed in 1945 but kept for pumping until 1966.

Some information and a photo of what it used to be like. (Thanks to Phil on the other site)
