Bit late in getting this one up, but decided to hop on the bus and spend a sunny afternoon having a nose around the old cement works back in June. Bit of a limited 'splore due to security on the east side and not wanting to piss off anyone living on the west side.

There's a decent history of the place on this site (better than I could do!)

cheers for looking :)

I used to live on the Old Shoreham Road, and endless trains would rattle down from the cement works to join the mainline. They used to be incredibly long. The Cement works is also a reporting point for Shoreham Airport, and many-a student pilot has used it as a turning point, for Runway 21. I gained my Private Pilot's licence there before joining the RAF and then a career in aviation. Yes, I remember when this old place was working.

Awesome! It's a fantastic place, very at odds with the scenic surrounding area. I'm Brighton born and bred and never think of the area being particularly industrial, more quaint, and then bang there's a humongous dusty old beast just sat nestling into the downs.

Sympathy due to whoever lived in the house by the east side when the place was open, must have been so noisy!

It was definitely a very in vogue place to go a few years back, I was half expecting it to have gone.

If anyone plans to go via the bus from Brighton, don't, it's shit and was over an hour and a half late going back into shoreham/Hove/Brighton. The thought of being stranded at the side of a motorway next to that place is an experience!
