Can't find much info on this one, apparently G.Woodford & Son was established in 1830. This became Kumfi Bedding at some point, owned by the Iliffe family. Eric Iliffe who was the director since the 1930's died in January of this year after a brief illness. Bit of a strange place thats been bugging us for years, it sat looking very old and untouched but with lights on constantly. Then the other week myself and jacquesj were walking through town and noticed there was scaffolding surrounding the building, and upon investigation demolition was underway. Some clearing out had taken place but there was still a lot of old items and paperwork scattered around which was pretty interesting. A lot of the paperwork was dated from around ww2 and detailed lots of iteresting things; repairs to bomb damage to the factory, building bunks for shelters and fire watching towers, rationing of materials, buying goods from bombed out London factories, and various other things. It seems the director was quite fond of his cars too, with lots of car magazines, AA handbooks, and related paperwork. There was a lot of unopened mail that was dated from 1997 and later by the letterbox, so we presume the premises were last used properly the previous year.

The lighting in the first 7 shots is just sublime. Then all that history........... amazing!

Really good pictures, so much history in those letters. I liked the old autocar magazine in particular, Humber being a real blast from the past. (Might still have been with us if they hadn't turned down the beetle).

Wow thats amazing! I hope all of the ephemera gets preserved.
Fantastic shots, cheers for sharing! :)
