History

In 1843 Frederick Trent Stanley formed Stanley's Bolt Manufactory in New Britain Connecticut in the U S of A. His cousin, Henry Stanley, later formed The Stanley Rule and Level Company, 1857. The two merged in 1920 to become The Stanley Works. A truly global company that now employs over 40000 people in 175 countries. In 2010 a merger with another global tool brand the company became Stanley Black and Decker.
The Stanley Works introduction to the UK came in 1937 when the company acquired J.A. Chapman in Sheffield. Manufacture on the site continued until 2008 when it moved to a new site at Hellaby.
The Explore

The first explore , with GPSJim, on a cold Sunday morning ended prematurely when, on inspecting the building we found a light on inside and people moving about. As we mooched we came up with various scenarios- Secca(nah), workmen (on a Sunday?), international drug deal (cars look a bit cheap), Sheffield drug deal (!!), shooting a porno????). Then we heard the unmistakeable sound of Airsoft guns. Should have read a report before I suppose. We walked towards the front of the building to be confronted by four machine gun toting, masked desperadoes. They do this every weekend, Saturday and Sunday so don't visit, you dont want to get shot, it stings!! Jim's negotiating got us a quick trip onto the roof and an invite to return.

So here we are...........

As always, thanks for looking everyone!!!!;)

Jeeeees that place has seen better days!
Not sure I would have found it funny bumping into those guys, although I did find your encounter funny :)

They were great to be fair. In the 2nd shot, there was a fire and explosion that took the front of the building off. The view from the roof is not bad on a clear day........

Great report, mate. As the days get longer I'll definitely have to get a second look at this place :)
Looking forward to beers on the roof in the summer :)
