A History
There has been a mill or mills on this site for over 300 years starting with Old Park Corn Mill which dates back to pre 1709. Owned by the Bamforth family until at least 1881. Through the 1800s there is record of various trades being listed using the mills, cutlers, grinders, a scissorsmith, a buttonmaker and an ivory turner. In 1764 Old Park silver rolling mill was opened. There is also a papermill listed. During the Sheffield flood in 1864 one of the mill was badly damaged. The Old Park Silver Mills Co. ran from 1880 tothe 1950s and was succeeded by the Shefield Steel Rolling Co. until the 1980s. The larger of thetwo mills changed from water to steam power in 1875 and then electric in 1920. The dam was filled in in 1929. There is a water wheel recorded in 1895.
There is little left now apart from the shell of the landowners house, one of the buildings to do with one of the mills, some graf and a rather splendid wheel.
