Tolly Cobbold Cliff Brewery - 25th February 2007

The original Cobbold brewery was founded in Harwich in 1723. Then, in 1746, the Cliff Brewery was built. In 1957 two family run brewers the "Tollemaches" and the "Cobbolds” merged to become Tolly Cobbold. The brewery Closed in 2002, when Tolly Cobbold merged with Ridley's. This place backs right on to a pub, so I always assumed it was not possible. Turned out I was wrong, and it is an amazing explore. There are rumours that it is to reopen.

Real Ale I believe. There's loads of old leaflets and stuff in there from when they ran tours. Was bought out by Ridleys and shut down.

Aah, wouldn't surprise me if someone puts it back into production then, you can never have too much real ale :)

Apparently, the brewery and attached pub are owned by a property developer who can't get planning permission to do anything with it as the brewery is listed, so he's kinda stuck with it!

Unfortunately like most other listed properties it probably means the developer will sit on it letting it rot until the council approves a demolition order. :(

The local pickey's will have trouble getting those in the back of their range rovers:lol:

Don't bank on it, they would just gas axe it into bits and sell the metal for scrap. I've heard it done before on huge chemical vats from old ICL works.
