I don't live far from this place and was on the way to beer beach on Friday so we decided to have a quick look around.
The majority of buildings have been torn down, with the whole place looking pretty desolate.
The only buildings remaining are a small shed, and an open-walled barn with nothing in it.
We decided it was a good idea to explore the entire length of the caves, despite nobody knowing where we were. In hindsight, probably not wise!
The caves went quite far, but attempts have been made (rather successfully) to block off the majority of the tunnels. There were points where we had to crawl through pretty slim gaps.
There are remnants of the 2010 free party (where apparently someone fell from the top and died) all over the place, including thousands of spent NOS canisters.
There are also candles in holes in the walls of the cave further in.
Fairly deep into the caves I found a small Union Flag torch, which got me thinking; how off your face do you have to be to lose your source of light in pitch black caves?
There was a few car parts just thrown in which have clearly been left for some time, the sump disintegrated when I prodded it with my foot.
We exited the caves after discovering another entrance completely hidden in undergrowth.
All in all, not a very exciting explore from an Urbexing point of view. Very little to see.
I thought it was worth posting in case people had seen pictures from a few years ago to avoid disappointment!
Apologies for the bad pictures, I was just documenting rather than going for artsy stuff. Also my camera wouldn't take the shots as it was too dark, and I didn't have a tripod to put it on manual shutter speed. I had to shine the torch and wait for it to focus!
Merci
The photo EVERYBODY takes:
Old machinery:
Old air compressor in a blocked off tunnel:
This HUGE pillar was supporting the roof:
Slightly disconcerting that the rust was just falling off it...
Small holes where they'd tried to block the path:
Pillars and asbestos:
Dressed for exploring:
Nathan (the guy in the previous pic) looked at this and said "look at that old socket!".
I have these in my house...
Candles:
More crawling (note the roots coming through 20 meters of rock):
The light at the end of the tunnel:
Hidden in the undergrowth:
