Hi all!
Before we start, I'd just like to give a massive thanks to Chopper. Had an amazing day and he showed me some awesome locations - thanks!
This was another place we visited - must say i definitely like this place! It's on land still owned by the Cowdray estate, and it's earliest mention was by them - back in 1715 when documents refer to two isolated lime kilns being used. From 1906 on wards the Cowdray Estate leased the site out to different contractors, with excavation amounts increasing substantially over the years - peaking at 36,000 tonnes in 1955. With the amount beginning to decrease, it finally ceased to operate in 1999, and has been rarely used ever since. The quarry remains part of the Cowdray estate, who use it for pheasant shooting.
We had a look round the lime works and headed up to the quarry before we bumped into someone.. a guy in a jeep. We explained what we were doing, and after a quick chat he went on his way - just telling us to "be careful."
Overall, it was an amazing day with some great places, now onto the photos!
And if you've made it this far.. thanks for looking!
