Ok all, I have been exploring for a while now after catching the bug when I discovered our local ironstone mines (some of that to come once I have the hang of this).

Anyway I know this has been done to death, but struggle to find places I can take my 9yr old who seemingly loves urbex more than myself, and the world most conspicuous dog!

So a day in Derbyshire yesterday led us to Magpie, Cowdale quarry & Bradfield Waterworks. The weather was stunning & the boys loved it!

Am sure you know the history by now, but in brief its the remains of one of the oldest lead mines from 1795 to 1950 with a wealth of history of conflict & dispute.

On with the pics, apologies if these are somewhat amateur, are all took with a very basic digital!

I've been meaning to do this for ages! Nice to see a report on it again

Thanks all, its not the most "extreme explore" but well worth a visit.
As mentioned my objective is finding places fairly legal & not too dangerous I can take the lad.
We chose such a good day for pictures, I just wish my camera / camera skills were better!

Hello there. Magpie mines is a good place for a wander round.
Your pics are good.....and don't worry about what type of camera you have. Composition and light are more important. Try advice such as this http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2...photos-10-simple-ways-to-boost-your-hit-rate/ if you are looking to improve your pics. All considered though, it is the experience of actually being there that a lot of us enjoy, the smell and the feel of the place.

Good luck with finding new places for yourself, the little'un....and the world's most conspicuous dog, of course ;-)

I thought it blended nicely, what with the snow and all :)

Yep magpie is cool - been three times now - not sure I could take another visit. My 1st visit was in VERY deep snow ... was cool.

Nice shots and report.
