Cwm Coke Works part 1, South Wales, January 2016

This is 'part 1' as I shall be returning! Myself and Jon6D visited here at the end of a long day exploring - mainly to check it out ready for another day. But once inside we thought we may as well take a look around, so used up the rest of the daylight strolling about the place. The place is vast, you really need to visit to truly appreciate the size. It is immense. So these are the photos I took during that visit before it got too dark and we called it a day!

Jon6D has since returned - and put up a great comprehensive report of the full site, so take a look at that too!

HISTORY
In 1958 Cwm coke works opened in the small town of Beddau. At its peak, Cwm colliery employed nearly 1,500 miners and was producing hundreds of thousand of tons of high quality, low sulphur coal per year. Much of this was processed at Cwm coke works, into high-grade coke suitable for foundry use. The National Coal Board closed the colliery in 1986, and Cwm Coke works in 2002, leaving yet another small Welsh town deprived and forgotten. Plans are afoot for up to 851 homes and a new school to be built on the former colliery site so this place may not be around for much longer.

Thank you krela. This place has probably been on my list the longest, can't believe it has taken until now to get around to it. Need to get back to see the rest now!

Yes, I got to get back there to finish the job. Got a backlog of photos on my laptop that I'm slowly getting through - so expect a few more in the coming days!!

Will book a few days off work and take my tent

I spent the best part of four hours in here, covered just about everywhere apart from the steal steps that run up along side of the building, didn't want to get seen pooing my pants in public
