Highfields Pumping Station - london - March 2016

History

Built in 1885 as part of the New River system, The pumping station alongside other similar buildings help to pump the water through the area, this pumping station was closed in 1962 and later became a station for Thames water of which it still home to a small office.

The pumping station is a red brick Victorian symmetrical building with a 2 storey engine house round the back. It’s in great condition and worth a look.

Few months ago @slayaaaa was babbling on about some building he found on google earth. We spoke about going to have a look and then not only forgot where it was but forgot all about it. One night while in North London we decided to go and take a closer look. Nothing really pointed towards it being closed/derelict but there was an amount of rubble in the yard from an old building and “explorer’s radar” made us take a closer look.

Once over the “spikey bastard” palisade fence we made our way in and were pleased to see the inside was full of some lovely features. We were greeted by some great switch boxes, gauges and signage, along with some pretty cool seats and tables.

The inside of the building was a little odd with some areas completely inaccessible but what we saw was good

Now that's different. A lot of the switch-gear seems to go back to Victorian times. Nice photographs helps when the electricity is on.
