Lime kiln, Guist, Norfolk, August 2016

Another mini explore in the lovely village of Guist in North Norfolk. This Grade II-listed disused lime kiln was built between 1814 and 1846 using brick and some flint. It is an unusual type as the kiln is circular with a pot that is funnel shaped. The lime chutes remain and has a large brick-ringed entrance along with a pair of sloping buttresses. Apparently in 1992 it was “in use as children’s bus shelter” (?).

Nice one Hughie !! Did a similar (although probably slightly smaller) one just down the road at Holkham a couple of weeks back !! Absolutely full of mosquitoes but in good condition. Not the easiest of buildings to photograph are they !!

Cheers mate. Ha ha, no mosquitos in my case but you are right, they are hard to photograph. I didn't have a tripod with me plus 18mm was as wide as I could go with my kit lense...

I loved this little kiln.not a lot know it's near the pavilion.funny thing is I only got around no to visiting it earlier this year.just happened to be passing and had a look.was shocked how nice it was.great set hughie.you captured it well

Not easy to photograph and great to see some variety in the industrial stuff. Lime kilns are fascinating in their variety and often overlooked as people wander.
