The History (Stolen from Snapt)

With the modern globalised economies of the world it is easy to forget that for many years Great Britain led the way. With great strides in technological advances we became a dominant force and at the centre of global commerce. You can trace the birth of the industrial revolution back to around the 1750's, and this historic mill has it's roots firmly based there. To put some historic perspective on this mill, the great composer Mozart had just settled in London where he wrote Symphony No.1 at the time when the mills were in operation.

Old Park Silver Mills were established around 1762 by Mr Joesph Hancock. Hancock was an ex- apprentice of Thomas Boulsover, the inventor of the method of making Old Sheffield Plate. The function of the mill was to primarily roll nothing else but silver upon copper, which was the original Sheffield Plate. The industry flourished until the invention of electro-plating in the 1850's. The Old Park Silver Mills Co as it became known as from the 1880's operated until the 1950's.
