Location
Edinburgh-ish
Went out for a wee drive about at the weekend and spotted a factory roof through the trees.
It's Pomathorn Mill, a paper mill, one of many in the area.
They all closed in 1975 and I think this is the only remaining one. Probably as it was the last one built (in 1956).
Apparently part of it's downfall was it's location as it's up high out of the valley, the cost of transporting up and down the hill and getting sufficient power and water to the plant meant the costs were ultimately too high.
The entire place is in use by a haulier and a car sales place now so no chance of getting inside although I may give them a shout and see if they'd be amenable to a wee poke about inside at some stage.

As a consolation prize however was the weighbridge office complete with it's original steel framed windows and curved glass intact!

It was quite a bright day and trying to shoot through what clean glass there was to get a clear shot of the dial.. well. I gave it a go.

It was very much a case of finding it out in the wild and doing the lookup later on! Didn't know about the rail there too.

Is this part of the same line that ran up through Lead burn and has the remains of the ammunition stores along it? There are still remains of those as well as the bridges along past West Linton and out towards Dolphinton.

That's the one. If you look at the RailScot website you'll find a lot of the stations along there have been converted to other uses, one is a cafe, still with platforms. The ammo stores is Rosslyn, I think its a no-go area. As with Pomathorn the signal cabin became a greenhouse. The bridges and viaducts are still present, and like the Borders Railway all it needs is rails.
